Jupiter Retrograde 2009

What is a retrograde planet?

A retrograde planet is not actually moving backwards – it just seems so from the perspective of those of us on planet earth. The planet Jupiter went retrograde on June 15th, 2009, and will remain there until October 13th, 2009. How does this affect us in the “real world”?

How does Jupiter retrograde affect us?

1. First of all, the emphasis in our lives becomes focused on inner growth and inner awareness. It is time to take stock of who we are, and how we are presenting ourselves. Are we presenting an outer image that matches our inner image? Are we attempting to be someone that we are not? Are those around us presenting an outer image that matches their inner image?

2. It is also important to note than any opportunities that are offered during a Jupiter retrograde are the result of efforts that we have made in the past, of seeds that we have already planted, of people that we have already connected with.

3. Since we are looking inward (as does the Hermit in the Tarot), we can expect that this will also be a time of spiritual and philosophical depth. The internal image that we have of ourselves, and the external image that we project, are both based on our belief system. A Jupiter retrograde can turn our lives upside down, requiring us to look deep within, and release those beliefs that no longer reflect who we really are. (This letting go is a natural part of the evolution of our beliefs.)

4. A Jupiter retrograde is also a good time for restoring or repairing either material things or relationship that may have been judged to be stagnant (or non-existent). To find out which part of your life is affected, look at where Jupiter lies retrograde  in your natal chart.

Jupiter in our natal charts:

In our natal charts, Jupiter governs our ideals, our sense of purpose, and basically that which brings us happiness. It also determines how challenging our life journey will be, and the attitude that we have towards life. Jupiter is a planet of expansion, and does give us a few clues as to where in our lives we should be willing to take that “leap of faith”.
Depending on which house Jupiter occupies in the natal chart, we can see where in our life we take those leaps of faith, and the method (according to sign) we use to make those leaps.

What Jupiter rules:

Jupiter rules the ninth house of higher learning, as well as the sign of Sagittarius, which is associated with travel, philosophy and learning. Jupiter also guides an individuals spiritual quest – often literally through movement from one place to another. If you wish to create abundance in your life, look to where Jupiter is in your natal chart. This is the area that abundance will flow through most easily for you.

Jupiter and our life purpose:

Many PsychicPower.com callers are interested in finding out their life purpose – literally why they are in this lifetime, and what they are here for. When we are doing what we are meant to do, we are aligned with the planet Jupiter and our lives run more smoothly. By consciously working with Jupiter, we bring more of he energy of “lucky breaks” and “synchronicity” to us.

Do we lose the beneficial aspect of Jupiter in a retrograde?

Jupiter in retrograde does not mean that these lucky breaks are not going to come to us. It means that we have to consciously turn within to bring ourselves into alignment with our purpose in life.

In ancient Greece the God Jupiter was seen as something of a benevolent father force, encouraging humanity to reach its highest potential. Under the Romans, Jupiter presided over religion, government and philosophy, and retained his benevolent character.

How can we use a Jupiter retrograde to our benefit?

1. In this Jupiter retrograde we need to take an inward look at whether our beliefs reflect our values. If they don’t, then we have strayed from the path somewhere. The only person who should be influencing our beliefs, and our values, is us. If we are allowing someone else to input their beliefs and values into our life, then we are not being true to ourselves.

2. We need to balance the attention that we spend on work, home, family and spirituality. Our spiritual beliefs need to become an everyday part of life, to be reflected in all of our thoughts and actions. A Jupiter retrograde asks us to make sure that what we are reflecting is who we really are. It also asks us to make sure that those around us are reflecting who they really are. If they are not, how big a part should they play in our life?

3. Honesty and integrity are inherent to Jupiter, as is education. What we discover about ourselves during a Jupiter retrograde may lead us to taking classes, or entering a formal degree program. Sometimes this is a form of going over past footprints, as in finishing a class or program that was begun and then set aside.

What not to do in a Jupiter retrograde:

Because this is an inner focused time, it is not auspicious for starting new businesses or business ventures. On the other hand, compassionate, humanitarian fund raising projects do fit into the inner focused, spiritual aspect of this retrograde.

Jupiter retrograde allows us to gain a new perspective on our life path:

During this time we will be examining our goals, tweaking them, and perhaps setting new ones. It is a time in which we need to pay attention to our intuition, and expect to receive messages and signs in a manner that we are perhaps not accustomed to. Allow yourself to be guided by Universe. In return, you will gain a whole new perspective on your life and life path.
