The Tarot can be read through randomly placing cards and ingterpeting them, but most often what is called a spread is used. In a spread, each position is defined, and the cards read in relation to each other. One of the spreads that I find most useful is the Three Card Spread. The reader predetermines the position meanings, which are focused on what type of informationt he Seeker is lookkng for. Spread definitions can be anything - Past/Present/Future, Mind/Body/Soul, Yes/No/Maybe ... the listis endless! What is your favorite Tarot spread?

Hi Lilith, I saw a spread once in the shape of an arrow and the reader revealed the cards starting from the "end" and culminating at the "tip" of the arrow, with the final card at the tip indicating the ultimate direction one should go. Forget the name, but thought it was pretty innovative since the design of the spread both physically and metaphysically pointed you in the direction you needed to go! -best Benj

Benj - How very interesting! I have never seen this spread used before, but the energy certainly is pointing in a given direction, with an outcome indicaged. Often readers will design a spread to address specific issues, and it sounds like this is what might have happened here. It is quite a powerful spread!
