The Ghost Whisperer – Season 4, Episode 15 – Ghost Busted – air date 8/07/09.
In this episode, Melinda tells Sam (finally!) about her ability to see ghosts. Eli and Melinda help a paranormal ghost buster  (Linus) (with a really cool ghost buster vehicle!) reunite with his ex-girlfriend (Carrie), and solve the disappearance of an older woman from the house across the street from Melinda.

The neighbors house is haunted – so they hire a paranormal investigator to help them locate the problem – and solve it. Melinda is not happy about this – in conversation with Eli, she notes that ghost busters do not communicate with ghosts, and they do not help them to cross over. She is also a little concerned about how Sam is going to react to the garish vehicle (highly decorated hearse!) that Linus drives!

Eli goes over to get to know Linus, and ends up working with him. He also ends up seeing his first ghost! He feels that the ghost is that of the elderly woman that previously owned the home – and mysteriously disappeared! (The current owners bought it from her estate.)

Meanwhile, Sam is doing a Google search on Melinda to find out more about her. Eli talks to Evelyn (the ghost of the woman who disappeared). Eli, Melinda and Linus go into the basement of the house, where they find a locked room, and the body of the woman who supposedly disappeared. They also find her savings passbook, which showed that she had withdrawn all of her savings just before
she “disappeared”. They are led to the hidden panel for the room by a male ghost that Melinda sees.

Sam is being quite vocal about not believing in ghosts, or paranormal activity. He is very aggressive in expressing his views. Since his accident, and his memory loss, he has a hard time dealing with anything that is not “set in stone”.

Melinda has Eli check, and finds out that the woman disappeared in 1999. She had a rather large collection of canning jars in her basement, which they at first think might have been to celebrate the New Year. The they realize that the New Year would have been the year 2000 – with all of the Y2K issues (that never actually materialized). The jars were for an “end of the world as we know it” scenario, as was the taking her money out of her savings account. (The money was found in the room with her. She was also not murdered – the lock jammed, and she simply could not get out.)

Melinda begins to wonder if the ghost hunter is finding ghosts because he may be haunted himself. He has had wonderful success since buying a new, expensive camera – that his ex-girlfriend loaned him the money for. Melinda goes to talk to the ex-girlfriend (Carrie), and realizes that Carrie’s father is the ghost that she saw in the basement. He was very against the young ghost hunter, which led to his daughter breaking up with him.

Meanwhile, Sam thinks that Melinda is a profiler – thanks to Eli, who has told Sam that Melinda is a criminologist! Melinda tells Sam that she sees ghosts, and has done so since childhood. He does not take this well!

Melinda and Eli help Carrie’s father to cross over. At the same time they tell Linus and Carrie that her father changed his mind about Linus after he died, and now feels that Linus is a good person. Linus and Carrie get back together again.

In the end, Sam apologizes to Melinda for his reaction to her gift. He asks for time to get used to it.
