Ghost Whisperer – ReCap – Season 4, Episode 18 – Leap of Faith – air date 8/21/09. In this episode Melinda helps a mechanic understand that he is a walk in – that his memories are those of a businessman who blames his partner for his problems. In the process, she helps Dr. Bird walk into the light, and Sam accept his Jim walk in.
Eli and Melinda encounter a maintenance worker who describes his near death experience (he was clinically dead and brought back to life), and how he has all of these memories that he doesn’t understand. He hears the name Clarissa constantly, and doesn’t know why. Melinda talks to the man’s former wife – who says that he was not the same person after his near death experience, and that he often called her Clarissa – which was not her name.
She tells Melinda that her ex-husband would not come home from work – he would choose to sit at a bus stop, as if waiting for someone. It turns out that he was sitting at a bus stop that was across the street from where his walk-in lived, with his wife – named Clarissa. When Melinda talks to Clarissa, she finds out that Clarissa was about to leave her husband just before he died, because he had been cheating on her. She found out when his partner was brave enough to tell her.
The mechanic visits Melinda’s antique store by coming in through the tunnel system under the town. He hears Clarissa talking to Melinda, saying that she wants nothing to do with him. He is very hurt, and runs back into the tunnel system. He locks himself into one section, and ends up breaking a pipe that starts spewing water. He is almost killed before he starts climbing up and finds a manhole to escape through.
Meanwhile, Melinda goes into the tunnel to save him. Dr. Bird warns her a bout the water, and she starts running just in time. However, she also ends up in a small section, unable to break open the bars that would allow her to get out. Dr. Bird goes to talk to Eli, so that he can rescue Melinda. Sam and Eli go into the tunnel, where Sam finds out that Eli doesn’t swim that well. Sam takes the tools needed to release Melinda, and dives into the water.
Sam’s backpack gets caught, and he hits his head while attempting to break lose. When he does, all of Jim’s memories come racing back. Sam unhooks himself from the backpack, grabs the needed tool, and finds Melinda. She takes the tool and breaks the bars so they are free.
Melinda helps Dr. Bird walk into the light. It turns out that he always saw the light favorably, but was afraid of the emotion of love that he saw there.
Melinda now has Jim back, but is not sure how he will react when he sees that he is in another body. Alls well that ends well! Thank heavens – I was tired of the Jim/Sam storyline!
