The ancient Celtic/ Nordic celebration of SamHain pronounced ( Saw wen) is far different in many ways of " Halloween"  ,first this is a ceremony of your loved ones crossed over ,people, pets, etc.and why do we celebrate that? because it's the only time of the whole year that the veil is so thin between the human world and the spiritual world .there for we can see, communicate, and honor them more ,hence the skeleton bones and masks of Halloween, there is no death or blood like horror movies show just  honoring our loved ones so when someone says they don't celebrate Halloween you can ask why ? Did you love your grandparents? That's what it's all about! Simple really,now on to the Jack O Lantern ,the Celts would carve faces in Gourds to scare off the dead visitors from their homes,and mask themselves when they would go out for "Tricks Or Treats" so the evil spirits that walk will not harm them,and if you were a Pagan ( Witch) this was not only your time of year to celebrate all your hard work for the coming Winter but also your Happy New Year which was really held on the 28th of October ,there were no 31st in those days until the Roman cslender was invented .Treats were honey cakes Apples Mulled Cider,a Bon Fire to light the way of the Dead,So this Holiday is really NOT about Michael Myers or Friday the 13th killings but about life, honor, celebration, and fun!
