I absolutely adore Nicki Scully’s work, and her “Power Animal Meditations” (Bear & Company) does not disappoint. I have attended some of Nicki’s teleclasses, and know that she is respectful of herself, her students, and the material that she is working with. She has a deep connection with the modality of healing and spirituality, and that certainly shines through in this book.
In “Power Animal Meditations” Nicki brings together the power and magic of the animal world with the power and magic of the world of the Egyptian pantheon. The meditations act to bring the reader to a point where they can create a conscious relationship with totemic beings – a relationship of mutual respect and powerful inner growth. It is also the story of how to live in harmony with all things.

In her introduction, Nicki indicates that this book is the fulfillment of a promise that she made to find and share tools for healing. She is an incredible healer, and a wonderful guide for journeying. If you ever get a chance to take a class with her (either in person, or over the phone), please do so.
Before Nicki has the reader begin their journey, she has them do some preparation. In fact, at the beginning of that section she states that the reader needs to read the sections on preparation and initiation before they begin the journeys. She describes the images that will be used, such a s the Cauldren, which for the purposes of this book is golden, and symbolizes the cosmic womb, source of all life and wisdom. She goes on to discusses deities, totems and archetypes. From the book: “We are in the process of transforming our identities from linear realities to holographic paradigms in which each fragment contains the whole. Through our observations of nature, we learn about ourselves and our relationship to the wondrous creation of which we are a part. As within, so without. The rich landscapes of nature are reflected in the deep well of introspection, our internal Cauldrons.”
In her section on how to use this book, Nickie states that this is a book to be experienced (as opposed to simply reading it, then setting it aside). Each journey begins with a discussion of the wisdom of that journey. Then the reader is led into the journey, beginning with the Cauldrom Alchemy. Explicit directions are given for each part of the journey. At the end of the journey, you are brought back gently into the physical world, grounded and centered.
Anyone, from any culture or religious background, will be able to understand and work with the material in this book. It is a graceful tool for self discovery, personal and spiritual growth.
