What is the meaning of the death card? It sounds so horrible, but I have read it can actually be a symbol of the end of something old and the beginning of something new? If so, does it also depend on what cards it is near?

Delphine - I do read the Tarot, but only for myself. I look at Death as transformation - of leaving something behind that was no longer serving me, and then having the room in my life to bring in something that does. I look to the surrounding cards to see what area of my life is being affected, and what I can do as an "action step". Dani

About the Death card. I once had a reading where I was asking if this person I met was the one for me. The advisor drew the death card and I immediately got concerned but she said that the card did not mean physical death. It is a card of endings. By its very nature, it would suggest one of two things: (1) this person was not for me and (2) for me to keep the relationship going I would have to change into something else entirely. I did not take her advice since this guy was so hot and for quite a while I thought she was wrong but sadly she was so on target especially about me changing to keep the relationship going. The relationship was so lopsided and inauthentic. It caused me more pain that it was worth.

Death is quite often asking us to look over our lives, and see what is no longer serving us well. When we take that out, it serves as a "little death", and leaves room for us to bring something in. In this manner, death becomes transformation. Lilith
