Lilith’s World – Setting Financial Goals For 2009

“I attract money to me easily, and it has a place of grace in my life.”

This week we are going to be talking about setting goals in the area of finances – a hot topic if there ever was one! From fear of failure to fear of success – with bouts of ego thrown in for good measure – setting goals in the financial area is certainly not all about money.

These are the questions that we looked at regarding finances. If you have different questions, questions that are more appropriate for you and your situation, please use them. This is only meant to be a template.

  • Where am I financially? How do I feel about my finances? How do I relate to my finances? Do I have realistic financial goals? Who do I know – or what resources do I have – that can help me set financial goals for 2009? This is a very important category, because our finances can be a burden, and can affect us on all levels: financially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

This week we are going to be setting goals in the area of finances. Before we start this work, I want you to take the time to sit down and write out how you feel about money. How do you relate to it? Is it a means to an end? Is it a reflection of how far you have come in life? Is it a bone of contention between you and your partner? Are you trying to live up to other people’s expectations? How do you feel about spending money? How do you feel about saving money? How do you feel about budgets? Is your general manner of dealing with your finances to ignore them and hope that all comes out well? Write until you are done writing. Don’t try to make sense of anything – just write. When you are done – read what you have written. I think that you will find out that your feelings about finances are quite different than you thought that they were.

In setting financial goals, we want them to be realistic, we want them to reflect our personal priorities, and we want to be able to set some type of timeline with them. Write down all of your goals – long term and short term. Try to set one goal in each financial area (i.e. savings in general, saving for a major purchase, paying down a mortgage, saving for college, going on vacation, medical expenses, credit card debt, buying a new car, retirement etc.).  Go through your list, and prioritize it. Set a timeline down for each goal, and action steps that will get you started to achieving it.

Make it a practice to go over your goals on a quarterly basis. Were you able to follow your actions steps? Are you closer to achieving your goals? Are you totally frustrated? You may be able to redefine your goals, or you may be able to simply fine tune them. If nothing seems to work, don’t hesitate to bring in whatever outside help you need to start making sense of things.

The readers on this line are an excellent resource. While they are not here to give you specific financial advice, they can help you define your goals, set action steps, and deal in general with your relationship to your finances.

A great site that I came across when researching this column is www.financial-freedom-made-simple.com. There is a wealth of material here, including an articles on financial affirmations, financial planning, and creating financial actions steps. Another site that I have personally worked with is financial guru Suze Orman’s site – www.suzeorman.com.

January 26th celebrations for the Chinese New Year will begin. The year 2009 is the year  4706 in the Chinese calendar, and is the Year of the Ox. Celebrations will be going on from January 26th through February 9th.  It is considered proper to wear lots of red, and (as is the custom with the western New Year’s celebration) generous amounts of food will be shared with family and friends. If your local area is having festivities for the Chinese New Year, you might want to think about taking part. It is a time of joy and celebration, and fun had by all! (And lots of fireworks!)

Each week, we are going to hear from the voice of one of our oracle allies. This week we are going to visit the world of shamanism, and Brother Bear. Bear carries the energy of intuition and healing, and is often a guide when we journey into the underworld. The message that Bear has for us is that we need to heal our relationship with money and finances. We need to be humble, and honor the manner in which we earn our money, as well as the manner in which it is spent.

Next week we will be setting goals and action steps in the area of finances.

Wishing you a week filled with joy and peace.

Best Wishes,
Lilith
