Personal Empowerment – How To Get The Most From Your Reading

“Whatever I can dream, I can be.”

This week we are going to be talking about how to get the most from your psychic reading. The operative words are “your reading”. The reading has been requested by you, and should be all about you, your questions and your needs. This does not, however, mean that the reader is there to (a) tell you what you want to hear (your friends will do that for you), or (b) fix your life for you (any fix that lasts has to begin internally).

The first thing that you want to do is decide where you are going to get your reading. Is it going to be in person, over the phone, by e-mail, in an open chat room (where everyone sees the reading), or in a closed chat room (where the only people present are you and your reader). The differences in the readings in these venues are price, time, and the comfort level of the Seeker (that would be you!). One note: if you opt for a chat room reading, know that the reading will move faster if you have at least an average typing speed. Hunt and peck won’t work here!

After you have decided which venue you want to use, check out different places within that venue. See what they offer, and what they charge. If the reading is in person, do they give you a tape of the reading? (Operative word here is “give”. Most readers will not charge you for the tape of your reading. They consider it added value, as you can take the tape an replay it as many times as you want to. Each time you replay it, you will more than likely pick up some new information.)

After you have decided where you want to get your reading, take the time to go over the different readers bio’s. Make sure that the reader you choose does the type of reading that you want (Tarot, Astrological, Numerological, I Ching, Clairvoyant, Clairaudient, Angels etc.). Then look at their “mission statement”. How do they view readings? What is the focus of their readings? What is their background? Pick someone that you feel comfortable with.

Before your reading, take a few minutes to site down and list the topics/questions/life areas that you want to cover. Try to place them in groups, and make them concise. Deal with one topic at a time. “Is my significant other going to call today, and are we going out tonight?” is TWO questions. Id doesn’t matter what system your reader works with, it is best to focus on one question/area/issue at a time.

Now you are ready for your reading! Take a deep breath, and pat yourself on the back. A little prep time will give you a much better reading. Before you start your reading, ask your reader whether it is okay to ask questions at any time (which means that you will be interrupting the reading), or whether they would rather that you wait until the end of the reading. This will put you and your reader on the same page.
If your reader does not seem to be addressing your question or issue, stop them at any point in time and let them know that. Most readers have the ability to adjust their style of reading to any client. If you still feel that your question or issue is not being addressed, then stop the reading. If your reading is in person, you can talk to your reader about paying for only the part of the reading that has already taken place. (You should know very early in the reading if your question or issue is being addressed.) If you have a prepaid reading (i.e. through an online company), ask for the customer service number. Call this number, explain the problem, and ask for a refund.

If your reading is going well, you have an infinite number of options. You can clarify any part of the reading that you don’t understand, and you can work with your reader to determine your options. Once the options have been determined, you can go over the pros and cons for each option with your reader.

At the end of your reading, your reader may offer different tools of empowerment that you can use to move your life forward, and build up your self-esteem. These might include affirmations, meditation, prayer, working with angels, automatic writing, visualizations, working with candles or working with color, to name a few. Make sure that the tool they are offering you is one that you are comfortable with. Different tools work better for different people. If they do not offer tools of empowerment (and most readers will), then ask them for something that you can do. This is your reading, and most experienced readers have a boatload of tools at their disposal!

There is one other thing worth mentioning. Occasionally the cards (or any divination system, for that matter) will answer what the Seeker needs to know, and not the question that they asked. Most experienced readers will simply say: “The cards are not addressing your question, but this is something that you need to know.” They will quickly go through the information that is coming to them, and then reshuffle and answer your original question. This should not take long. Be very open to this, as the information that is coming through is generally very important.

Above all – enjoy your reading!

Each week, we are going to hear from the voice of one of our oracle allies. This week we are visiting the Tarot. The voice that wants to be heard is that of the Ten of Cups. This is a lovely card – in the traditional RWS imagery we see a family scene, with a rainbow across the top. The feelings here are gentle, and very positive. The Ten of Cups tells us that that our joy, our peace, our reason for being at this time is centered around home and family. There is abundance surrounding you, and respect from others. Take time to honor your family, your home, and your place in your community.

Next week we will be cruising my bookshelf, and looking at what different books have to offer us.

May your week be filled with joy and peace.

Best Wishes,
Lilith
